My work
Research interests: species rarity, biodiversity, quantitative ecology, conservation.
Broadly, my research focuses on large scale patterns of biodiversity. More specifically, I study spatial variation in multiple forms of species rarity (small range, low abundance, habitat specialists). I use quantitative methods (statistical and null models, computer simulations, etc.) in all aspects of my work. I work with existing large-scale datasets of mammals, insects, and lichens in both the Southern Rocky Mountains (mammals, insects) and the Southern Appalachians (lichens) to answer questions related to patterns of species rarity. In the field, I’ve spent lots of time small mammal trapping and have done some work collecting insects, too.
